Project 1

Assignment One:

What kind of reading do you do? In this assignment, you will expand your view of what "reading" is. Do you read recipes while you cook? Well, that counts as reading. Do you instant message your friends online? That counts as reading too!

For one entire day, track all the times you find yourself reading--from reading your shampoo bottle in the morning because you are bored, to reading the news online, to reading for homework or for fun. Write these instances in a list. Then write 1-2 paragraphs of reflection. What surprised you about your findings?

Finally, write 2-3 paragraphs about the types of reading you enjoy, and the types of reading you do not enjoy. You will be sharing this is class in small groups.

Assignment Two:

Pick Your Appetizer!
This should be something short, and something you really like--do not pick a novel. Choices can include your favorite magazine, an essay, a news article, a website, a short book of poems, a joke book or book of quotations, or even a cook book or car manual.

Reading Autobiography! Building on assignment one, you will write a short reading autobiography. Write about your memories of learning how to read, significant moments with reading, and your present day relationship with reading.

You will have three weeks to read your appetizer and write your autobiography. On the day they are due, you will share your choice with the class, and have a conversation with your classmates about your autobiographies.
